Its not unusual to see a rainbow in the spring in Kentucky. However, in the fall, they are kinda rare. A couple weeks ago, following a brief rain, I noticed the brightest rainbow I had seen in a while. As I was snapping pictures, the rainbow multiplied.

Suddenly there were two rainbows. I can’t tell you the last time I saw a double rainbow. I quickly ran to the other side of the house to capture the other end of the rainbow.

Luckily, I made it just in time. What a blessing! Thank you, Lord.

One day, before a thunderstorm, my husband and I were taking a ride and noted that the sky was, at that moment, my favorite color sky. In an unimaginative tone, he said, “Gray?”.

Most definitely not gray. I see something much more beautiful and multi-dimensional than gray.

I love the contrast between the sky and the green grass. I love the color combination so much, it has become the inspiration for our upcoming kitchen remodel color scheme.

I also love the way this color and its various shades translate into HDR.

Have you ever taken a landscape photo that just wasn’t what you expected?

Try turning the image to black and white. This photo was taken right before a storm. The sky was two distinct shades of blue and the barn was sillouetted. I expected the blues to look more powerful than they did when I downloaded the photo to my computer.

I tried various Photoshop manipulations to increase the contrast, but nothing captured the powerful cloud that threatened the barn.

As a last resort, I decided to take the original image and convert it to black and white. Voila! Suddenly the power of the clouds was evident and it brought out detail in the barn.

I worked for many years at a newspaper where most of my pictures were published in black and white, so I tend to shy away from that selection now that I don’t have to use it. This photo has convinced me that I may need to revisit my old medium occasssionally.

This picture was shot with a Canon Rebel, set on AV at F22.

Have fun with your camera, 🙂
