Leaves caught in midair
A whisper of madness
Or a ghost in the woods?

Follow me down
A lush green path
To the state of Peace.

I enjoyed nature photography as a hobby when I worked as a newspaper photographer. It offered a nice contrast to the hard news images I was often sent to capture.
After I scanned in the Kodachrome slides the other day, I edited them in Photoshop. I could have cropped out the edges, but chose to leave them on for nostalgic effect.

I gathered some moss from outside one day when the temperature rose above freezing and brought it in to soak (I put it around my houseplants). I decided to take a few shots of the moss while it was in the tray using my micro filters. I love the way they turned out. They look like forests, where one would expect a fairy or hobbit to reside.

I put my camera on a low tripod and attached the remote shutter release so that I could leave the shutter open as long as I needed. I used the light on my range hood and set the whole thing up on my stove top.

On a walk recently I came upon this pile on top of an old railroad plank. I’m sure a squirrel or chipmunk had a full belly after leaving this scene. Hopefully, he saved some for the winter. It’s here in Kentucky.

This is another one of my “window shots”. I taped a leaf that I found to a piece of white paper and taped the paper to my south-facing window illuminated by the sun. I like the way the veins of the leaf show up in the shot.

Keep experimenting 🙂

For this shot, I gathered leaves in the fall and laid them in a cookie pan, filled it with water and froze the whole thing. When the ice block was removed from the pan, propped it in a well-lit window and shot several shots with the tripod and remote release because the shutter was slow. I can’t wait until spring to try this with some green leaves and flowers. 🙂

Spring is in the air, hopefully.

Aw nuts! An owl face 🙂

This picture was taken over the summer. It’s hard to take any new shots here, because IT’S STILL SNOWING!

As I got out the other day to get my mail shortly after a rain, I noticed that a spider had provided a base for a nice water droplet sculpture.

Take time to look around, beauty is everywhere 🙂
