Archives for the month of: May, 2014

If you follow my blog, you know I am obsessed with HDR photography. I love the way it makes plain things beautiful. I decided to see what effect HDR would have on some of the rusted junque I have laying around.
See what you think.

Oh, color wheel,
Look at us now,
Coexisting here
In this frame.

The bumblebee
Doesn’t seem to care
That it sips on nectar
Meant for the butterfly.

Old building
And fresh new buds,
Share a yard
And a spring day.

One is fleeting,
The other enduring.
But at this moment,
They bask in the
Same sunlight.

In Kentucky, barns come in many shapes and sizes, from modest to grand.
Let’s look a three examples.
1. Yes, it’s a barn. A barn that holds hay, grain and oh yeah, million dollar thoroughbreds.
2. A very respectable, well made specimen if not as aesthetically pleasing as no. 1. This one holds hay, probably some tobacco and maybe a horse or two. There are a whole lot more of these in Kentucky than the first example.
3. Okay, technically it’s a hay shed, but it’s really cute.
These photos are all HDR processed from three images in Photomatix.

This derby day, I want to show my favorite race track, Keeneland, in Lexington, Kentucky. For two weeks in the spring and two weeks in the fall, this course holds live racing. There are a lot of great photo ops at Keeneland, but you will have to fight a large crowd. If you want to take pictures, I recommend going on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. The scenery to Keeneland is beautiful too.

A puff of cotton,
Pierced by golden spears,
Floats on unfazed
In a sea of blue.

A young foal greeted the world on a sunny day last week. This was shot with my new 18-270mm lens set at 270mm. I had to sharpen the image slightly in RAW, but overall the quality was pretty good.
