Archives for the month of: May, 2014

One sweet, one sour,
They share a bowl
And compliment
Each other.

Hearts torn open
Each dangling one drop
That never reaches
The ground

A fuzzy head
Waves goodnight to its friends.
It won’t last the evening,
But holds hope for
New life on each
Tiny tendril.

Still tightly wrapped,
A tiny gift from God
Waits for the right time
To unfurl and
Spread it’s joy.

Botanical bird
Calls out to all,
Come see the
Ancient structure I call
My neighbor.

At my friend’s farm implement business, I found this used rake as well as new ones. I love that there is still hay stuck in the wheel mechanism.
These were shot in HDR using three auto exposure bracketing images.
I hope to post a tutorial soon on HDR step by step.

Ok. We all know I am obsessed with HDR. I also like farm equipment too. Recently, my friends Joe and Linda Haydon got some new equipment at their farm equipment business that included several yellow hay rakes lined nicely in a row. I asked if I could take pictures.
I am thrilled with the results. The repeating patterns and beautiful clouds made great results.
These images were shot with my new camera, a Canon Powershot SX50 HS. Although it’s a point and shoot, it behaves like a DSLR, shooting in RAW and allowing you to shoot on full manual, TV and AV. It takes beautiful pictures.

I discovered a new photography app for my iPad that is amazing. Picture Show is my new favorite toy. I am really impressed with the vintage look pictures it produces by changing various combinations of settings. When you finish, you can create a “recipe” of all the things used to create that look, so you can save time later with another photo that you want to look the same.
You can either take a photo or use an existing one. Then apply HDR, tilt shift, various light leaks, color filters, etc. There are too many combinations to count.
Here are a couple of examples:

The top photo is the original I pulled from my photo stream. The manipulated one was opened in Picture Show, cropped, tilt shift applied, bokeh light leak and limelight filter applied.

For this one, in order to change from the original (top) picture, I cropped then applied the red cross filter and the halation 1 light leak.
The app is not free, but the many combinations you can create make it well worth $1.99. It is an iPhone app, but will work on an iPad. You just have to check iPhone only when searching the App Store.
Have fun 😉

Time for another round of HDR rust photos. These were fun.
