Archives for the month of: April, 2014

I found this great sign the other day on Lexington, Kentucky. I’m not sure what kind of business it is, but the name certainly got my attention. I use that phrase a lot.

Bending low,
Heavy with petals,
The buds wait for the sun
To open them with warmth.

When you are stopped in traffic and you are the passenger in a vehicle, look up at the fronts of buildings, especially if you are in an old town like Lexington, Kentucky. The details on the architecture are beautiful. Stopped at a light the other day, I found the perfect opportunity to take this shot of the Lexington Opera House.
From the low angle, there is an element of camera distortion, but with some careful planning, the distortion can enhance the photo.

niagra with tesla double
I’ve been trying my hand at double exposure shots again. This time a used a couple of pictures I took last summer at Niagara Falls. The base photo overlooks of the bridal veil falls and the hydroelectric power plant across the river in Canada. The ghostly overly is a statue of Nikola Tesla, a pioneer in electrical engineering. He appears to be watching over the operation of the plant.
I used the same method as in my previous double exposure post. I lasso selected the statue and copied and pasted it into the other picture. I then screened the image and flattened the entire thing to a Jpeg.

A sea of pinwheels in front of the Harrison County Youth Services Center in Cynthiana, KY, serves as a reminder of Child Abuse Prevention Month throughout April. In the background is Harrison County High School.

Its finally starting to look like spring in Kentucky. The barn squares aren’t the only things that are wielding color.

I made this video about HDR creation.

Hope it’s helpful:)

I found this beautiful rusty wire spool on the back of our farm. Sometimes people become obsessed with shiny new things and overlook the charm of old oxidized items.
I shot this on shade white balance setting to increase the golden hue.
Keep your eyes open 🙂

beans watercolor

Once again, Photoshop saves the day. This shot of some beans was not what I wanted. However, after a few manipulations on the computer, the photo became more vibrant.
I used the watercolor filter in the filter gallery to get this look. I can now use the picture for a background or a lettering filter. Actually, I may just print it out and hang it in my kitchen 🙂

This was taken with my smartphone Retro Camera app. This old harrow has been the subject of many photos.
