Archives for the month of: December, 2013

I gathered some moss from outside one day when the temperature rose above freezing and brought it in to soak (I put it around my houseplants). I decided to take a few shots of the moss while it was in the tray using my micro filters. I love the way they turned out. They look like forests, where one would expect a fairy or hobbit to reside.

I put my camera on a low tripod and attached the remote shutter release so that I could leave the shutter open as long as I needed. I used the light on my range hood and set the whole thing up on my stove top.

A new gadget has helped me revive some old Kodachrome slides. I ordered the lomography smart phone film scanner from Photojojo earlier this week and when it came, I couldn’t wait to get started scanning some old slides I had.
Some of them were taken by my older brother. The one below is of me and my niece. I’m the one on the left. This was taken in 1966.

The great thing about Kodachrome slides is they never fade or lose quality.

This one I took in 1995, during the time I was a photographer for a newspaper.

I used my own camera on the job, therefore, when a photo op came up that was not for the paper and my camera was loaded with Kodachrome, the shot ended up being a slide.
I am just starting to experiment with the digital files, so I haven’t a report on quality just yet. I’m just happy to have my old shots in a form that I can manipulate.
More to come 🙂

Taken with my Motorola Atrix using the Retro Camera app.

Merry Christmas from Lisa Hurst Photography 🙂

Ready to pounce in the autumn grass.

On a walk recently I came upon this pile on top of an old railroad plank. I’m sure a squirrel or chipmunk had a full belly after leaving this scene. Hopefully, he saved some for the winter. It’s here in Kentucky.

Indian corn may not be edible (although my free-range rabbits have been eating it) but it sure is beautiful. Each kernel is an individual work of art.

My New Year’s resolution next year is going to be to look more closely for detail in everything. Hopefully, I will have more close-ups to share.

Keep your eyes and your mind open 🙂
