On April 27, 2006, 49 people were killed when Comair Flight 5191 crashed at Bluegrass Airport in Lexington, KY. Today, this sculpture of 49 birds representing each of the victims, stands as a memorial in the University of Kentucky’s Arboretum.

The pieces are made of a magnesium aluminum alloy and welded together to form a flock of birds taking flight. Even if you are not familiar with the story behind the artwork, the piece if breathtaking.

It is located in the middle of the arboretum’s rose garden on a platform that is inscribed with the victims’ names.

From across the rose garden fence, the birds appear to be flying out of the garden.

All these pictures were shot on a very sunny day with polarizing filter attached to my lens. They were shot at F22 on AV setting, 200 ISO, using a Canon Rebel.

Have fun with your camera 🙂
